I really wish someone would tell me why i need 8 hrs of lab science for a bible degree! Who gives a rip about the answer to the following question?
Two builders carry a sheet of drywall up a ramp. Assume that W = 2.10 m, L = 3.30 m, theta = 24.0°, and that the lead builder carries a weight of 153.0 N (34.4 lb). What is the weight carried by the builder at the rear ?
Jhuff - if you have an answer before midnight my time, hook me up

I would just like to tell you that I've never been to Greenland and I've never been to Denver and I've never buried treasure in ST Louie or ST Paul and I've never been to Moscow and I've never been to Tampa and I've never been to Boston in the fall. I've also never hoisted the main sail and I've never swabbed the poop deck and I've never veered starboard, cause I've never sailed at all and I've never walked the gang plank and I've never owned a parrot. And I've still never been to Boston in the fall. I've never plucked a rooster and I am not too good at ping-pong and I've never thrown my mashed potatoes up against the wall and I've never kissed a chipmunk, and I've never gotten head lice and I have never been to Boston in the fall. I've never licked a spark-plug and I've never sniffed a stink bug and I've never painted Daisies on a big red rubber ball and I've never bathed in yogurt and I don't look good in leggings and I've never been to Boston in the fall.
I guess that makes me a pirate who doesn't do anything.
On a completely related note - This blog epidemic is spreading to ohio now. Welcome to JTH. No not me - the

So, everyone likes complaining about chapel here at LU. I was actually thinking about this in chapel today - maybe it would be more enjoyable if the students took some ownership in it. I extremely enjoyed Joy's sharing time a couple of weeks ago. I love Jonathan's worship team. I'm sure there are many many other gifted musicians that would like a turn to lead worship (yeah, i'm aware that there are 3 groups already picked for next year). I'm also certain that there are people here on campus that have valuable experiences to share. What do you all think? All student run chapels? I think it would take quite a bit of work, but i think it would be worth it.

what the smack is ordo salutis? can't we all just love Jesus and have done with it?
dude, i'm serious...lovin Jesus is what it's about...forget the mumbo jumbo...the day i willfully pay some dude to take my faith and make it all high and mighty and academic is the day i piss on my bible....please, gimme a down to earth pastor willin to teach me the Word of God, not breathe some magical, philosophical scholarly air down my neck and get me to do the same to someone else down the road
The above was written by a good friend of mine. We'll just call him by his initials JH. He wrote in response to finding out what my doctrine's test covered. What would life be like if we took some of these ideas and applied them to other areas of study.
forget the mumbo jumbo
Let's say we are talking about pharmacy. You are reading a text book, or looking at a chart. It starts to sound really complex because they are using a lot of big words. I get annoyed an just say, give it to me straight - what's going on? If we boil it down to the basics, the answer may be you need to take these pills because you are sick. Would you really understand what was going on and how the medicine was attacking the illness? No you wouldn't. Would it be just as effective - yes.
Why can't people interested in theology look for the answer to how God does things? It can be done in a way that is firmly rooted in the word - not a magical, philosophical scholarly air. For example, in my test i quoted Scripture 52 times in 6 pages worth of explanation. Did it sound scholary? Probably. Was I teaching straight from the Word of God ? Damn right I was.
the day i willfully pay some dude to take my faith and make it all high and mighty and academic is the day i piss on my bible
And what is wrong with making the journey to understand faith an academic endevor? I dont' see anything. I desire to be like the Bereans who were "examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so." (Acts 17:11). Studying Scripture systematically helps ensure that there is a balance when emphasizing complementary doctrines (like Christ's deity and humanity, or God's Love and his Justice). We have to study theology if we are to fulfill the commandment given in Matt 28:19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to observe all that i have commanded you..." How can we teach what God had commanded if we don't know it??? We can't!
can't we all just love Jesus and have done with it?
Please define Jesus. Do you mean Jesus the God, or Jesus the Man. the Jesus who was only a spirit w/o physicality or the baby Jesus who never grew up? Maybe you meant the Jesus with a human body, but not a human mind. I hope i have made my point. There are almost an infinite number of views of Jesus. In fact, that is where most cults or heresy's get started. They deny one of the essential truths of him That he was both God and Man at the same time in one person. We need to study theology to have a right understanding of who the Jesus of the Bible really was.
I'll get off my soap box now - Leave a message if you want

What am I supposed to write about today? I have a whole lot of studying to do for doctrines tonight. I didn't do great on the first one, so I have to do well on this exam. I'm sitting here at my job - tired of calling a bunch of high school students who have no idea what they are doing for next fall. Oh well - only a little more time left. I guess I'll live. I'll prolly write more later.

I was sitting at breakfast today - reading for my physics class (yeah, I'm a bible major, but need 8hrs of lab science - go figure). Anyway, my frustrations with physics will probably be another blog another day. Back to breakfast. I guess I should say I was trying to read. This guy behind me was spouting off about how he doesnt' think chapel should be required because of a number of things. One thing he kept coming back to is that he didn't like a lot of what was being said, so he shouldn't have to listen to it. However, when they guy talking with him asked him what specifically he didn't like, they anti-chapel guy couldn't come up with anything better than John Fischer used generalizations that weren't 100 percent accurate (and John publically admitted that).
So this guy didn't think he should have to go because he didn't like a lot of the messages or speakers. Because HE didn't like them. Because he liked his youth group back home better. Freakin' grow up. Stop expecting to be spoon fed. Some of us are mature enough to gleen some benefits from any message we hear. Sometimes you just have to look for them. This guy also claimed that he got zero out of chapel - to people who claim that I ask, "How much are you putting into chapel?"
Do you realize how blessed we are to have chapel? I know a girl from germany who loves to come vising LU (she has come twice now, and if she gets the money will transfer), because our christianity is so free. She is one of 10 christians in a 5000 person school. She was sharing with me earlier that christianity is very often squashed in her classroom by her professors. Start realizing how blessed about how freely we express our faith. She thought it amazing that profs actually start class out with devos and prayer. How many of us appreciate that fact? Start counting your blessings.
ok, off the rant for now

These are my current thoughts about girls today - brought to you courtesy relient K
We all know the girls that i am talking about
Well they are time bombs and they are ticking
And the only question's when they'll blow up
And they'll blow up
We know that without a doubt
Cause they're those girls,
Yeah, you know those girls that let their emotions get the best of them
And i've contrived some sort of a plan to help my fellow man
Let's get emotional girls to all wear mood rings
So we'll be tipped off to when they're ticked off
Cause we'll know just what they're thinking, just what they're thinking
[Chorus]
She's so pretty but she doesnt always act that way
Her mood's swinging on the swing set almost everyday
She said to me that she's so happy its depressing(stressed out that its soothing)
And all I said was someone get that girl a mood ring
If its drama you want then look no further
Theyre like the real world meets boy meets world meets days of our lives
And it just kills me how they get away with murder
They'll anger you then bat their eyes
Those pretty eyes that watch you sympathize
And i've contrived some sort of a plan to help my fellow man
Let's get emotional girls to all wear mood rings
So we'll be tipped off to when they're ticked off
Cause we'll know just what they're thinking, just what they're thinking
[Chorus]
Cause when its black it means watch your back because you're probably
The last person in the world right now she wants to see
And when its blue it means that you should call her up immediately
And ask her out because she'll most likely agree
And when its green it simply means that she is really stressed
And when its clear it means shes completely emotionless(and thats alright i must confess)
We all know the girls that i am talking about
She liked you Wednesday but now its Friday and she has to wash her hair
And it just figures that we'll never figure them out
First she's jekyll and then she's hyde
At least she makes a lovely pair
Mood ring oh mood ring
Oh tell me will you bring
The key to unlock this mystery
Of girls and their emotions
Play it back in slow motion
So I may understand the complex infrastructure known as the female mind

Ok so I was thinking (I really do think sometimes) and talking to more than a few LU students I have realized that more than most of us are incontent with the school. I have always wonderd why we are so incontent with it. I understand that most of administration tends to be backstabing and controlling. It seems that we the students have allowed the administration to destroy our oppinions of this University. I do not believe that R.G. LeTourmeau founded this school so that many years later the students would all lay down and allow the admin to walk all over us. I am by no means trying to instigate an open attack or start any kind of revolution, this would be pointless and ignorant. But there are other options for us to take. We cannot allow ourselves to give up what is ours by right. I am not so much talking about the physical as the spiritual. We have allowed the admin to tear our awsome body of students to pieces. We are called by God to be one body. one spirit, and one mind. What has become of that? have we become so caught up with our petty arguments and fights that we can no longer live the life that God has called us to? I heard one of the most intriguing ideas taken directly from a R rated movie where the word F**k is used most generously (God forbid). The quote "We must fear evil men... but there is an evil far greater which we must fear... the indifference of good men!" we are the Good men in the quote as well as all Christians. Are we going to let the world and the evil men destroy the only hope for the future? Our own discontent is a mighty tool that if allowed can be used against us. instead of building each other up we are each other. You are probably wondering how this applies to our campus? When I arrived here only a few months ago I saw the potential of this University as a tool for Gods work. I still see this possiblity, but for us to use it we have to destroy our own lack of understanding and forgivness that I see so prevalent in our School including myself. I have been prayed many a night about the lack of unity that hampers our effectivness as not just any body, but as the Body, that is the body of Christ. I have no solutions to this problem but i feel it is time that we force ourselves to face the issue on a large scale.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the above was posted by someone I know from LU at an unoffical LU student run forum site. it was entitiled "are you tired of this bullshit?" this is the line that prompted a response by me "I have no solutions to this problem but i feel it is time that we force ourselves to face the issue on a large scale."
Yes, I am tired of it. I am tired of students who came here and just complain about all the negative aspects of the university with out taking the time to find solutions. Someone once said they encourage cinicism - but here at LU it has gone too far. Students here are pretty much the most negative people I have ever been around (and yes, I was public schooled). I bet half the student body that complains about the ever lurking prying all knowing administration has never once taken an issue to Doug, Brad, or Harold. I have always been heard out when I've spoken with them - did they always change to my possition, no. Did they respect me because I use the proper method to convey my stance - yes. Its all in how you approach things. Find something you are complaining about and then find a solution (that is realistic). Quit preaching to all your "admin is out to get me friends" and try to deal with it. I'm willing to bet that none of the three guys i mentioned would shoot you down immediately if you approach them without a chip on your shoulder. Learn how to deal with conflict in the real world (with diplomacy, and grace). It will get you alot farther than acting like a know-it-all.

Alas, spring break is at a close. I really enjoyed mine. I made it through 5 states and actually spend significant time in 2 of them. I went to check out the vicksburg civil war park in mississippi. That was definately cool. I'd like to go back some other weekend. I also went up to memphis tennessee and spend some time on Beale St. Very cool. Got to see the gibson gtar factory, bbking's club, graceland (cool, but i'll never go back), and just enjoy that area. I'll go there again. I was going to go to Dealey Plaza (where jfk was killed) but I ran out of fundage. oh well, its close, I'll make it there sometime. I hope all you people who went somewhere for break make it back safely. Unfortunately, i have to get to work. there is alot going on for me in the next two weeks. No prayer and praise tonight - it will start up again on the 23rd (next week). If you come regularly, thanks for coming. If you don't, try it. Its beneficial to many people.

Sometimes I think my feelings are best expressed by someone else's song lyrics. Recently, I've been feeling really inadequate in a lot of areas in my life. Some areas I thought I had given to God, yet they remain unchanged because, although I have my arm extended, my hand is tightly clenched around them. The following helps explain how I feel.
How can I stand here with you, and not be moved by you?
-Lifehouse
If I am exising with God, how on earth can I not be changed. Maybe I'm not really with God. How can you truely know when you really know God?

I decided to give in to the fad and start an online journal. Don't expect perfect spelling or grammar, and we could be friends. Also, feel free to disagree with anything I post - I probably won't lose any sleep over it. Hopefully I'll figure out all these features soon. Anyone know anything about commenting?
